How to quit smoking without stress: personalised cessation support in Tbilisi

November 25, 2025

Quitting smoking is one of the most meaningful decisions you can make for your long-term health — but only 20% of attempts succeed without structured support. At A CLINIC, medical care and psychology work together to give you the best chance of long-term success.

What the package includes

• Two 30-minute consultations with a general practitioner
— Comprehensive assessment of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
— Calculation of pack-years
— Evaluation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
— If COPD is suspected: recommendation for spirometry* to assess the need for inhalation therapy

• One 60-minute session with a psychologist
— Analysis of behavioural patterns
— Planning your personalised quit-strategy
— Tools for managing cravings and withdrawal symptoms

• Laboratory tests
— Lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL)
— Fasting blood glucose

These tests allow us to identify early metabolic and cardiovascular risks often associated with long-term smoking.

What happens at each step

Initial GP consultation

We evaluate your respiratory and cardiovascular health, screen for symptoms of COPD, assess smoking history and possible comorbidities. If COPD is confirmed or suspected, you may be referred for spirometry* to determine whether inhalation therapy is needed.

Second GP consultation

Once the lab results are available, we calculate your individual risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) and discuss your personalised cancer-screening plan — smoking affects not only lung cancer risk but several other cancers as well. At this visit, the GP will also review the pharmacological options for smoking cessation.

Psychologist consultation

Here we build a behavioural strategy: how to quit safely, how to manage triggers, and how to maintain long-term remission.

Preparing for laboratory tests

• Have your blood drawn in the morning
• 8–14 hours of fasting (water is allowed)
• Avoid intense physical or emotional stress beforehand

*If COPD is suspected, spirometry and a bronchodilator reversibility test may be required.
